Ralph reviews a detached family home in Churton
Well sporting season is upon us and everywhere I turn recently there have been football fans and tennis aficionados. The enthusiasm in my local area has been such that I have yet to take my morning walk without taking time out to dribble a well-placed football or hurtle after a mis shot tennis ball – well it would be rude not to get in the spirit of things!
Now although football didn’t “come home” this summer and we have had to say a sad farewell to Andy Murray at Wimbledon, I feel so terribly proud of the achievements of our national athletes – and now we have the Olympics to look forward to! In this week’s brief arrival of summer, I persuaded mum and dad to go to the beach where I proceeded to get involved in every beach volleyball match I could find (whether invited to partake or not!). Beyond the beach I also think I am a natural at the 100 or even 200 metre sprints – especially when a frisbee is involved, although I think I will leave the long distance running to my buddies Sid the springer spaniel (he never stops running around) and Rodney the Rhodesian ridgeback (who never gets tired)!
In between practicing beach volleyball and decorating Olympic rings to hang up outside the house, I found time to head off to the delightful village of Churton to visit the subject of my latest Ralph’s Review. I was promised a fabulous family home and when I arrived I saw that I was not to be disappointed. Nestled into the corner plot of a very pleasant cul-de-sac, I first glimpsed Cinnamon House which gave me the immediate first impression of a very welcoming family home. As I stepped down from the car onto an expansive driveway, I cast my gaze around and took in the surroundings – I saw a very pleasant vista and a handy attached double garage, without even glancing at dad I knew he would be smiling serenely at the thought of the cars kept clean and safe from the elements!
With a little snort of laughter, I trotted over to the front door, stepped over the threshold and found myself in a very attractive entrance hall with a beautiful central staircase leading to the first floor. Before bounding up those deliciously enticing stairs however, I had a ground floor to inspect… Snuffling around the entrance hall I spotted a handy cloakroom before taking a door to my left which led me into a beautiful drawing room.
As I stood in the centre of the room and gazed around I saw a chic, impeccably styled contemporary room which would be the perfect backdrop to many a drinks party – I could just picture my friends from the agility group chatting amongst themselves whilst I, the host, float effortlessly around the room offering select titbits and bowls of water. Summer evenings would see us opening the French doors and wandering seamlessly from inside to outside and vice versa, whilst on winter evenings a cheery glow from the lit log burner would be a welcome focal point….
Shaking my head and bringing myself firmly back into the present, I took a door to one side of the drawing room and found myself in a wonderful conservatory – just the place in which to find a sunny spot for snoozing – I looked at dad hopefully but he shook his head vehemently and ushered me back in the direction of the hallway.
My next stop was the kitchen which, once again, was contemporary, light and airy.
The ground floor of this lovely home has a truly special and contemporary feel, it has been cleverly modelled to have part dividing walls between the kitchen and adjoining dining room and the sitting room. I simply adored the effect it gave – of semi open plan living but with distinctly defined spaces as well. Ambling from the kitchen into the dining room, I once again found myself in a stunningly contemporary room, bathed in light from the large windows.
My final stop on the ground floor was the sitting room just adjacent to the dining room. Wow, with its open plan yet also private feel, light flooding in from the windows at the front and French doors at the back, and exquisite styling this room really felt like a show-stopper.
With a sigh of utter contentment I made my way back to the hallway and bounded enthusiastically up the stairs to the first floor. There I found four attractive and good sized bedrooms, one with an en suite bathroom as well as a family bathroom.
Having fully explored the delights of Cinnamon House I can confirm that this is the most perfect family house which would also lend itself effortlessly to entertaining – whether that be for family gatherings or sophisticated soirees with friends.
At this point, all that remained was to explore the outside space and once in the garden, I was overwhelmed with excitement and bounded around like a puppy. Just like the house, the garden had a simply gorgeous, welcoming feel to it and, as one would expect, it was impeccably maintained with a vast expanse of lawn and mature trees dotted throughout it.
There was also a beautiful terrace area just outside the conservatory which would be a delightful place for a spot of summer al fresco dining – I could just picture mum and dad relaxing at the end of the day, a glass of something cool in hand…. Whilst I lay at mum’s feet, hopeful of a dropped morsel or two….
As I said a reluctant goodbye to Cinnamon House I reflected on how truly unique it was – a perfect family house, configured just beautifully to offer cohesive family life whilst still retaining privacy and to top it all off, impeccably maintained to make it a wonderful home for entertaining in too.
