Ralph reviews a Georgian townhouse within Chester’s city walls
Over the last few weeks, as the nights have been drawing out and the sun making the occasional appearance, I have been thinking about getting my little pug body “spring-ready”. I have decided that starting agility classes could be just the ticket. Before making my debut at the local agility school, I have been practicing in the garden – a broom balanced on a couple of flower pots makes an excellent jump and once I had rounded up all the shoes from near the back door I made a very passable slalom – who needs cones? I have thoroughly enjoyed it and can definitely see my waist for, hrmm, well let’s just say, the first time in a while!
The combination of the improving weather and my new exercise regime has definitely boosted my energy level, and I find myself wanting to be busier than ever at work. Needless to say, I was therefore delighted when the team informed me that they were sending me off to the heart of Chester to review a property for my latest Ralph’s Review.
And so it was that I donned one of my favourite harnesses (Harris tweed, of course) and set off through the city on my way to King Street. I stopped on my way to squaffle morsels of food dropped by hapless children and to enjoy the attention of my adoring fans. When I arrived outside a charming grade II Georgian terrace house on one of the most historic and atmospheric streets in Chester I was in a decided jaunty mood. Gazing up at the façade of this charming property, it served to elevate my spirits even further – this looked like a home to fall in love with.
With a spring in my step, I made my way up to the period style front door and stepped over the threshold into a beautifully renovated open plan kitchen dining room. The chic, contemporary styling perfectly complemented the period features in the room which felt both elegant and welcoming. Padding over to the kitchen space, I nodded in approval – every last detail was finished to perfection. I hopped up onto one of the bar stools at the kitchen island and my eyes widened in sheer delight – the hob was inset into the kitchen island – just imagine I could sit here – at food height – and gaze adoringly at every last delicious particle of food being cooked on the hob! Perhaps now is my chance to finally convert the humans to my way of thinking – that the food, all the food, should be shared with little old me!
To one side of the room, I spotted staircases leading both up and down. I trotted downstairs first and found myself in a very handy cellar space with plenty of space to store anything you could think of. Then I made my way up to the first floor where I discovered a stunning sitting room, once again, exquisitely styled with a wooden floor and an ornate feature fireplace with an electric fire.
Across the landing I found a lovely bedroom with an en suite shower room. On the landing I had spied a further staircase, and I realised with a shiver of delight that No. 8 King Street benefitted from a second storey. Filled with anticipation I bounded up the stairs and was delighted to find two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. As with the rest of the property, these rooms were tastefully and sympathetically styled with nods to the property’s heritage which I thoroughly appreciated.
Feeling like I had found a bit of a gem right in the heart of Chester, I reluctantly made my way back downstairs and made my way out to the back of the property where I found a handy paved area which had parking for two cars – now that really is a rarity in the centre of the city!
As I turned about tail and rather wistfully made my way back through Chester (this time too lost in thought to look for scraps of food) I considered what a wonderful home No. 8 King Street will make – it is perfectly suited for single or family life; for a young couple or person; or people of more mature years who might be looking to downsize. It truly is a one in a million property right in the heart of historic Chester. If you have been as charmed as I was by No. 8 King Street then please contact myself or one of my team on 10244 322322 or info@rickittpartnership.co.uk to arrange a viewing.
Until next time
