Ralph reviews a three storey townhouse in the heart of Chester
This week’s Ralph’s Review saw me heading back into the heart of the historic city of Chester. I was delighted to learn that I would be visiting St Martins which is just a stone’s throw away from some of Chester’s cultural venues including the Storyhouse complex and the Picturehouse which mum and I attended back in March for a special showing of Robot Dreams. This rather poignant animated film chronicled the adventures and misfortunes of Dog and Robot in New York during the 80s. Mum and I had a lovely time together – mum ate popcorn and I was mesmerised by the GINORMOUS screen – dog was about a THOUSAND times bigger than me! But after the initial shock I really enjoyed the experience and now I have become quite a culture buff so any property that sits within such a cultural hub felt right up my street.
With a jaunty swing in my step, I set off through the city and made my way to St Martin’s. Onwards I went, following my nose until I arrived at 7 The Yonne. Even before setting paw inside, I ascertained that this property seemed to be one of the best located in all of St Martin’s.
With that in mind I could scarcely wait to see inside and with no further ado, made my way through the door. On the ground floor of this rather fabulous contemporary townhouse, I set foot into an entrance hall which led me to a cloakroom, a utility room and a rather chic kitchen dining room with double glazed doors to both the side and back that open out onto the private courtyard garden.
With a spurt of enthusiastic energy, I bounded up the stairs to the first floor. I arrived on the landing and took a door to my right which opened out into a magnificent sitting room.
The room was bathed in sunlight from no less than two bay windows as well as another window. Wandering over to them I admired the views over the communal garden and, beyond that, to the city walls. What a spot to watch the world go by – in a few short minutes I saw a swathe of tourists, a runner dressed all in lycra (that was rather alarming) and a very cute little Pekinese dog being walked by her owner – oh yes I could get used to this – the question is, would dad ever be able to tear me away to get some work done….
And just like that it was almost as if I could hear his voice in my ear – “Plenty more to see, dear boy, better get a wriggle on”. With a quick snort of laughter, I hauled myself to my feet and continued my explorations of 7 The Yonne. I found four wonderful bedrooms, one of them was on the first floor together with an en suite bathroom. The remaining three were all to be found on the second floor together with a family bathroom.
One of these further bedrooms has an en suite shower room whilst another could easily be used as a study and, with the breathtaking views over the city walls from the French doors in that room, I could just see how inspiration would effortless flow for my upcoming crime novel “Inspector Ralph and the Mystery of the missing Sausages”. With storylines for my brilliant but complicated hero whirling round my head, I was reluctant to leave but time was marching on. So, with a resigned step, I made my way back downstairs, had a quick wander around the private courtyard, and a further wander around the charming communal courtyard before casting my eye over the integral garage and noting what a gem it is to find a property within the city walls with a garage.
As I left 7 The Yonne I decided to take a detour round the city walls whilst perusing the many charms of this modern city townhouse. For anyone who loves city living, especially those who want to immerse themselves in the cultural and restaurant heartlands, it is simply perfect. So if you love the idea of living within the city walls in a quietly elegant modern townhouse, please do not hesitate to contact myself or one of my team on 01244 322322 or info@rickittpartnership.co.uk to arrange a viewing.
Until next time
